Ipswich Borough Council has welcomed the first 10 new council homes at Bibb Way in Ipswich as part of a new housing development built by Handford Homes.

The homes constructed on the former BT site are part of a development consisting of 150 houses and flats. This includes 78 newly created one and two-bedroom flats repurposed from the former office block and 72 newly built homes situated on the areas previously occupied by the car park and data centre.

The four two-bedroom and six three-bedroom houses became available to families in Ipswich to rent as part of the first phase to be completed, with the remaining homes planned to be completed by late spring 2025.

Councillor Alasdair Ross, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Ipswich Borough Council, says:

“We’re pleased to see these homes handed over to the Council and ready for tenants to move into. It’s fantastic to see this prominent, former BT site transformed into a new development, providing much needed homes to the local area.

Colin Kreidewolf Chair of Handford Homes says:

“It’s fantastic to see improvements to this area, as along with the new, high-quality homes, the green space surrounding the development to Alderman Canal and Alderman Road Recreation Ground has been improved, providing a welcoming environment for residents and the community to enjoy.”
