Following the completion of 96 homes for affordable and market rent at Ravenswood, and as the Bibb Way development of 150 new affordable rent homes nears completion, the Council is seeking to allocate funding for its next housing projects.
The Council’s Executive is set to consider transferring around £2m unused contingency funding from the Ravenswood and Bibb Way developments to its pipeline development budget so that it can continue to develop much needed new homes in Ipswich.
The funding will enable site identification, surveys, and design with each proposed scheme due to be submitted to the Executive for sign off prior to planning applications being delivered.
The work will be carried out by Handford Homes, the Council’s wholly owned house building company, which as well as leading on the developments at Ravenswood and Bibb Way is also delivering new housing at Fore Hamlet and Hawke Road.
Councillor Alasdair Ross, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Ipswich Borough Council, says:
“Ipswich Borough Council is committed to increasing affordable housing in Ipswich. Once the current schemes are completed, we will have delivered 402 new homes since 2021.
“It’s encouraging that unused contingency funding from projects at Ravenswood and Bibb Way will enable us to move forward with the next phase of development. Handford Homes and its contractors have worked hard to bring complex projects in on budget as well as delivering high quality homes.”
