The Mayor of Ipswich’s Charity Ball has been hailed a success after more than £9,000 was raised for charity.
The Sri-Lankan-themed event last week (Friday 21 March) at the Ipswich Town Hall and Corn Exchange was in aid of two local charities - Genesis Orwell Mencap and Cancer Support Suffolk, which both provide essential services in Ipswich:
- Genesis Orwell Mencap supports adults with disabilities through daily activities.
- Cancer Support Suffolk helps individuals and families affected by cancer.
The charity ball included a Sri-Lankan dinner, entertainment and an auction. The evening was made possible due to the generosity of partners Sizewell C who kindly sponsored the event.
Mayor Councillor Elango K. Elavalakan says: "I’m immensely proud to have hosted this year’s Charity Ball which was a huge success.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to work alongside our community and business partners to raise vital funds for two wonderful local charities. Both Genesis Orwell Mencap and Cancer Support Suffolk provide essential services, supporting people in Suffolk.
“I would like to personally thank everyone who attended the event and supported it through either buying a ticket, purchasing an auction item, or as a sponsor. The funds will make a huge difference to the lives of people living locally."
Communities Relationships Manager, Michelle Emmerson-Grey, from Sizewell C says: “Sizewell C was delighted to sponsor the Mayor’s Ball 2025.
"Sizewell C and the people of Ipswich have a shared ambition to drive opportunities for the town and we have committed to employing at least 500 colleagues from the Ipswich area throughout construction. The transition to net zero provides enormous opportunities for Ipswich and the ball has been a fantastic cultural celebration of all that is great about this town and the county.”
