The installation of replacement windows is now included as 'building work' and requires a Building Notice to be submitted, prior to work commencing.
Compliance requirements
The replacement windows are required to comply with the relevant requirements of the Building Regulations in respect to:
- Thermal insulation;
- Ventilation areas;
- Provision of combustion air for heat producing appliances;
- Safety glazing;
- Means of escape in case of fire.
Exemptions
If the replacement windows are being installed by a firm registered with FENSA or CERTASS as authorised to certify their own installations, or if it is only the glass being replaced, an application is not required.
