Ipswich Regent Theatre has announced that Mixbrow Construction has been awarded the contract to deliver the works to upgrade and modernise the Grade II listed theatre.
The redevelopment project has been designed with customers in mind, aiming to enhance their theatre experience from the moment they enter, with facilities upgraded to ensure inclusivity for all, including those with accessibility needs.
The theatre will close its doors to the public on Sunday 4 May 2025 however the show will go on at the Corn Exchange, with all shows hosted at the sister venue during Ipswich Regent Theatre’s closure. Once works have finished, there will be a grand reopening for the theatre’s festive panto, Cinderella, running from 12 – 31 December 2025.
The project is solely funded by a Restoration Levy which has been added to all tickets over £10 since June 2023, with the generated income ring-fenced for the refurbishment, improvement, and upkeep of the theatre.
Councillor Jane Riley, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Culture and Customers, says:
