Ipswich Borough Council is offering support to local community groups wishing to hold their own events for the COVID-19 Day of Reflection on Sunday 9 March 2025.

The Council is inviting local community groups, charities, and organisations to get in touch to request local grant funding to support them with their events, to cover costs such as providing refreshments during their event.

Throughout the day, the Council will also make two of its community rooms at Gainsborough and Whitton Sports Centres available to local groups, providing a welcoming space for quiet reflection, group activities, and commemorative events. The spaces are offered free of charge, with those interested, invited to express their interest as soon as possible.

The Council will be planting a Tree of Reflection in Alderman Road Recreation Ground in March to remember and commemorate those who lost their lives during the pandemic.

Councillor John Cook, Ipswich Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Communities and Sport, says:

“The COVID-19 pandemic impacted us in so many ways, so it’s important that we take this time to reflect and support one another.

“As part of our commitment to supporting our communities, we are offering grant funding and the free use of two of our community spaces to help support local groups who are holding reflective events on Sunday 9 March.”

Community groups can request funding support and book the community rooms by emailing: communities@ipswich.gov.uk
