Competent Persons Scheme

Overview

Competent Persons Schemes were introduced by the Government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with Building Regulations, as an alternative to submitting a Building Regulation application.

These schemes cover the following works:

  • Replacement windows;
  • Installation of gas or oil fired burning appliances;
  • Electrical installations;
  • Sanitary ware in a dwelling;
  • Ventilation and air conditioning.

You should always ensure that a Building Regulation application is made to your Local Authority if your installer is not registered under the Competent Person Scheme.
