We offer assistance in modifying council homes to better accommodate residents with disabilities, though our budget for these adaptations is limited.
Types of adaptations we provide:
- Over bath showers
- Ramps
- Flat floor showers
- Hand rails
- Grab rails.
How to request adaptations
To request these adaptations, please contact Customer First, the initial point of contact for social services in Suffolk. Call them at 0808 800 4005 and ask for an Occupational Therapist to assess the specific needs of the individual.
In some cases, we may hold case conferences with Social Services to explore the possibility of moving the individual to a property that is already adapted.
Responsibility during adaptations
While the adaptation work is being carried out, Social Services is responsible for providing any 'moveable' aids, such as:
- Electric hoists
- Internal grab rails
- Free-standing shower chairs
In certain situations, we collaborate with Social Services to deliver these adaptations.
